Statement on Indictments of Ronald and Thomas Calderon

Press Release - Statement From Mark Vafiades, Chairman, Republican Party of Los Angeles County, Following Indictments of Ronald and Thomas Calderon

BURBANK, February 21, 2014 –

“Today’s twin indictments of Ronald and Thomas Calderon are only the latest proof that there is something very rotten in Sacramento’s Democrat power structure.  It is way past time for the most powerful Democrat in the Legislature, State Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg to answer for the culture of corruption that has grown and now exploded on his watch.”
“The fact is, one Democrat, State Senator Rod Wright, is a convicted felon.  Another, Ronald Calderon, is now indicted on 24 counts – including bribery.  His brother, former Democrat Assemblyman Thomas Calderon – an influential lobbyist ubiquitous in the Capitol’s corridors of power – is now also indicted and faces seven counts of money laundering.”

“This is a disgrace.  Both Sen. Wright and Sen. Calderon must resign immediately.  When they do not, Sen. Steinberg should stop his outrageous blocking of efforts to expel them both.  Why is he protecting this kind of corruption in Sacramento?”
