In 2008 and 2010, a clear majority of California voters spoke out against politicians picking their own districts, and enshrined in the state constitution a Citizens Redistricting Commission, made up of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, so the process is fair and maps aren’t created by shady backroom deals, but transparently in public.
Now, a small group of Capitol insiders want to end the independent commission and have drawn new congressional maps in secret. They claim the change is temporary, but we’ve heard that before. Over 64% of Californians like our current system—please join us in fighting this unnecessary ploy by signing up to volunteer to fight for independence in this special election.
